#DIGIMON UNIVERSE APPLI MON APP SERIES#
I'm really enjoying it so far but not exactly as a Digimon series but as its own thing. Unlike other seasons in the real world there's no sense of danger, urgency or adventure yet and that can make the series feel stale in comparison. The use of CGI for all the evolutions so far has been really jarring and can throw off the aesthetics of the series. The addition of plot points in early episodes is nice but feels like such a Steven Universe tease, where we'll get Cameramon's fight in ep 2 but then end it immediately in ep 3 and have a monster of the week or hint at a bigger theme but not deliver on it for a long time. Gatchmon when compared to the other main partners is similar when it comes to having a goal and being relatively dependable but is more "cutesy".
The hero character is incredibly passive and weaker, the polar opposite from all our other goggle boys. However when compared to the other seasons we've had its definitely a different direction that almost feels very un-Digimon. The characters are interesting and have good dynamics, there's plot points sprinkled into these early establishing filler episodes which keep things interesting, the Appmon designs are cute and interesting and the animation is well down with nothing TOO repetitive yet. Standing on its own I think its a really strong series. I just hope they get an actual evolution theme soon.Who knows? Maybe they'll include an actual Digivolution as a plot twist or something. I'm still going to give it a chance though, if only so that I can see the plot develop, like I've mentioned above. Now, most of what I've said were just criticism, yes. Make me feel like they're just trying to fill up the air time. Here? Every time(well, so far) Gatchmon is AppRealized, they do the intro thing. They need to be introduced so that the audience knows what to anticipate. But that's the thing, they're new Digimon. Yes, Digimon had that thing where they introduced a new Digimon in each episode and there would be a little data reading on it. I'm pretty annoyed by the constant reintroduction they give for Gatchmon too. But things like Messemon and Ropuremon kinda turn me off.Īnd then there's the pathetic excuse for an evolution theme they have.Repeating the first parts of the Appmons' names but slightly faster each repeat isn't what I had envisioned for an evolution theme. Gatchmon, Navimon, and the like are fine for me, even if they are slightly more mechanical than some people might be used to. I'm interested in seeing where it goes, but on the other hand.Well, designs are a little sketchy for me. It has an interesting premise, and there are hints to a deeper storyline in regards to Haru's best friend. Personally, I'm still a little wary about it.
